It happened sooner than expected????

Remember when I wrote this post about Britney's "comeback" on TV's "How I Met Your Mother?" I asked how long it would be before she was up to her old tricks.....well, I have my answer even sooner than I expected! See today's Defamer post here!

What kind of moron pees in the bushes when she knows there's a gaggle of paparazzi following her? Oh, I know...Britney Spears.

Please, someone....anyone.....I implore you.....lock this crazy bitch up once and for all!!!

Stuff like this makes me sick!

I stumbled across this photo of J. Lo today:

It was taken Saturday as she was leaving a hair salon in NYC (according to E! online).

She had twins on February 22nd. Now look at her! Gorgeous.....bitch!

Speaking of meshuga good......

You know what Friday night means for me.....Cindy and I are going to Willhoites! We always have a great time. Last night, a band we hadn't seen before, Railhead was playing. The name of the band caught my attention immediately because it's also the name of a very good Bar-B-Que restaurant here in DFW.

Once I got a gander at the lead singer, all thoughts of BBQ were out the window (although I could think of a few things to do with some sauce and the lead singer, but I digress).

I found some pics online and had to share with you because.... hubba, hubba!

There's just something about a guy in a cowboy hat!

Yummy!

Yes, they sounded good for a cover band, but I was all about the scenery. I'd like to hear some original music (if you know what I mean, and I think you do) though! I guess Cindy and I will just have to keep going to Willhoites and work our way up from table dancers to Railhead Groupie!

TGIF!!

Haven't had time to post anything all week (except for my awesome brisket recipe). Thankfully, it is finally the weekend and time to go blow off some steam. You know what that means....it's Girls Night Out!! Here's hoping I'll have lots of fun stories to post about tomorrow....Cheers!

Oy Vay, the brisket was meshuga good!

Since I'm relatively new to this blogging thing and you're still getting to know me, let me give you a little history on me....Jen! I grew up a good (cough) Lutheran girl. Traveling through life, I've had little things come up that keep trying to convince me that I should be Jewish (or perhaps was a Jew in a previous life).

Examples:

1. My first Jew, DR was a very serious boyfriend in high school who.....well, let's just say he was a piece of halvah! He was convinced I was a shiksa goddess (which, of course I am)!

2. My favorite way to have a bagel? Schmeared with red onion, a tomato slice, a few capers and of course....lox!

3. My oldest (in time I've known her, not her age) BFF: a Jew!

4. My new house has a mezuzza on both the front and side door.

5. Some of my favorite sayings: Oy, shmuck, shtik, shlep, chutzpah, klutz, kosher, putz! They just come out naturally. Plus I know a lot of other yiddish words (although I'm not so good at spelling them).

6. I love Challah (Holla!) bread and have a great recipe for creme brulee french toast that uses Challah (Holla!) .

So, if these tidbits aren't enough to convince you, this one will do it: I make a KILLER brisket. I made it tonight and it was so delicious, it was my motivation for this post!

In the spirit of giving, I've decided to share it with you because it's extremely easy, extremely good and if you don't try it Bist Tsedrayt.

Brisket Recipe:

1 (3 to 4 lb.) Brisket

1 (12 oz.) can of Coke (use only Coke, not Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Pepsi, etc). I tried to use something different once and it didn't taste anywhere near as good.

1 envelope of Lipton Onion Soup Mix

2 Tblsp. Hungarian Paprika

Put Brisket in a roasting pan and rub the soup mix and paprika into the Brisket. Pour Coke around brisket, cover with foil and cook in pre-heated oven for 3 hours at 350 degrees. Remove after 3 hours and let sit for 15 minutes. Cut across the grain into thin strips, place back into the pan juices, recover with foil and let cool. After a while, (this is the hard part) put it back in the fridge and reheat the next day for dinner as is, in the pan juices.

Yummy!

If I could take a moment to be serious...

I didn't start this blog to vent my political views or be overly serious (and if you've ready any of my posts, that is no surprise). I do, however think it's important to share the following article, written by JIM CASH, Brig. Gen., USAF, Ret.

Here is a little background on the author, as forwarded to me by a co-worker who sent me the article (in case you're wondering, there is no record of this as a scam on snopes).

"An assessment of where the US stands in relation to the Middle East problems, this one is from the guy who had his finger on the nuclear trigger for three years as head of our defense and response complex buried under Cheyenne Mountain at Colorado Springs. He was the only person who could initiate a nuclear attack after advising the sitting president of a missile launch by our enemies and our need to respond. No political or civilian type in the US had more knowledge about day to day military actions around the world. Everyone should find quiet time to read this. As far as I am concerned, it is exactly the direction we should go and the consequences of not doing so are well thought out."

Before I print the article, please know that I am not trying to offend anyone or make claims that one political philosophy is better than the other. I am a huge supporter of our armed forces overseas. That said, here is the article:

Middle East Imperative

BY: JIM CASH, Brig. Gen., USAF, Ret. (click to see military bio)

I wrote recently about the war in Iraq and the larger war against radical Islam, eliciting a number of responses. Let me try and put this conflict in proper perspective. Understand; the current battle we are engaged in is much bigger than just Iraq. What happens in the next year will affect this country and how our kids and grand-kids live throughout their lifetime, and beyond. Radical Islam has been attacking the West since the seventh century. They have been defeated in the past and decimated to the point of taking hundreds of years to recover. But they can never be totally defeated. Their birth rates are so far beyond civilized world rates, that in time they recover and attempt to dominate again.

There are eight terror-sponsoring countries that make up the grand threat to the West. Two, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan just need firm pressure from the West to make major reforms. They need to decide who they are really going to support and commit to that support. That answer is simple. They both will support who they think will hang in there until the end, and win. We are not sending very good signals in that direction right now, thanks to the Democrats.

The other six, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, North Korea and Libya will require regime change or a major policy shift. Now, let's look more closely. Afghanistan and Iraq have both had regime changes, but are being fueled by outsiders from Syria and Iran . We have scared Gaddafi's pants off, and he has given up his quest for nuclear weapons, so I don't think Libya is now a threat.

North Korea (the non-Islamic threat) can be handled diplomatically by buying them off. They are starving. That leaves Syria and Iran. Syria is like a frightened puppy. Without the support of Iran they will join the stronger side.

So where does that leave us? Sooner, or later, we are going to be forced to confront Iran, and it better be before they gain nuclear capability. In 1989 I served as a Command Director inside the Cheyenne Mountain complex located in Colorado Springs, Colorado for almost three years. My job there was to observe (through classified means) every missile shot anywhere in the world and assess if it was a threat to the US or Canada. If any shot was threatening to either nation I had only minutes to advise the President, as he had only minutes to respond.

I watched Iran and Iraq shoot missiles at each other every day, and all day long, for months. They killed hundreds of thousands of their people. Know why? They were fighting for control of the Middle East and that enormous oil supply. At that time, they were preoccupied with their internal problems and could care less about toppling the west. Oil prices were fairly stable and we could not see an immediate threat.

Well, the worst part of what we have done as a nation in Iraq is to do away with the military capability of one of those nations. Now, Iran has a clear field to dominate the Middle East, since Iraq is no longer a threat to them. They have turned their attention to the only other threat to their dominance, they are convinced they will win, because the US is so divided, and the Democrats (who now control Congress and may control the Presidencyin 2008) have openly said we are pulling out.

Do you have any idea what will happen if the entire Middle East turns their support to Iran, which they will obviously do if we pull out? It is not the price of oil we will have to worry about. Oil WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE to this country at any price. I personally would vote for any presidential candidate who did what JFK did with the space program---declare a goal to bring this country to total energy independence in a decade.

Yes, it is about oil. The economy in this country will totally die if that Middle East supply is cut off right now. It will not be a recession. It will be a depression that will make 1929 look like the "good-old-days".

The bottom line here is simple. If Iran is forced to fall in line, the fighting in Iraq will end over night, and the nightmare will be over. One way or another, Iran must be forced to join modern times and the global community. It may mean a real war---if so, now is the time, before we face a nuclear Iran with the capacity to destroy Israel and begin a new iceage. I urge you to read the book "END GAME" by two of our best Middle East experts, true American patriots and retired military generals, Paul Vallely and Tom McInerney . They are our finest, and totally honest in their assessment of why victory in the Middle East is so important, and how it can be won. Proceeds for the book go directly to memorial fund for our fallensoldiers who served the country during the war on terror. You can find thatbook by going to the Internet through Stand-up America at http://www.ospreyradio.us/, http://www.ospreyradio.us/ or http://www.rightalk.com/, http://www.rightalk.com/.

On the other hand, we have several very angry retired generals today, who evidently have not achieved their lofty goals, and insist on ranting and raving about the war. They are wrong, and doing the country great harm by giving a certain political party reason to use them as experts to back their anti-war claims. You may be one of those who believe nothing could ever be terrible enough to support our going to war. If that is the case I should stop here, as that level of thinking approaches mental disability in this day and age. It is right up there with alien abductions and high altitude seeding through government aircraft contrails. I helped produced those contrails for almost 30 years, and I can assure you we were not seeding the atmosphere.

The human race is a war-like population, and if a country is not willing to protect itself, it deserves the consequences.

'Enough - said!'

Now, my last comments will get to the nerve. They will be on politics. I am not a Republican. And, George Bush has made enough mistakes as President to insure my feelings about that for the rest of my life. However, the Democratic Party has moved so far left, they have made me support those farther to the right. I am a conservative who totally supports the Constitution of this country. The only difference between the United States and the South American, third world, dictator infested and ever-changing South American governments, is our US Constitution.

This Republic (note I did not say Democracy) is the longest standing the world has ever known, but it is vulnerable. It would take so little to change it through economic upheaval. There was a time when politicians could disagree, but still work together. We are past that time, and that is the initial step toward the downfall of our form of government. I think that many view Bush-hating as payback time. The Republicans hated the Clinton's and now the Democrats hate Bush. So, both parties are putting their hate toward willingness to do anything for political dominance to include lying and always taking the opposite stand just for the sake of being opposed. JUST HOW GOOD IS THAT FOROUR COUNTRY?

In my lifetime, after serving in uniform for President's Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan , and Bush I have a pretty good feel for which party supported our military, and what military life was like under each of their terms. And, let me assure you that times were best under the Republicans. Service under Jimmy Carter was devastating for all branches of the military. And, Ronald Regan was truly a salvation. You can choose to listen to enriched news casters, and foolish peoplelike John Murtha (he is no war hero), Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Michael Moore, Jane Fonda, Harry Reid, Russ Feingold, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and on-and-on to include the true fools in Hollywood if you like. If you do, your conclusions will be totally wrong.

The reason that I write, appear on radio talk shows, and do everything I can to denounce those people is simple. THEY ARE PUTTING THEIR THIRST FOR POLITICAL POWER AND QUEST FOR VICTORY IN 2008 ABOVE WHAT IS BEST FOR THIS COUNTRY. I cannot abide that. Pelosi clearly defied the Logan Act by going to Syria , which should have lead to imprisonment of three years and a heavy fine. Jane Fonda did more to prolong the Vietnam War longer than any other human being (as acknowledged by Ho Chi Minh in his writing before he died). She truly should have been indicted for treason, along with her radical husband, Tom Hayden, and forced to pay the consequences.

This country has started to soften by not enforcing its laws, which is another indication of a Republic about to fall. All Democrats, along with the Hollywood elite, are sending us headlong into a total defeat in the Middle East, which will finally give Iran total dominance in the region. A lack of oil in the near future will be the final straw that dooms this Republic. However, if we refuse to let this happen and really get serious about an energy self-sufficiency program, this can be avoided. I am afraid, however, that we are going in the opposite direction. If we elect Hillary Clinton and a Democrat controlled congress, and they carry through with allowing Iran to take control of the Middle East, continue to refuse development of nuclear energy, refuse to allow drilling for new oil, and continue to do nothing but oppose everything Bush, it will be over in terms of what we view as the good life in the USA.

Now, do I think that all who do not support the war are un-American---of course not. They just do not understand the importance of total victory in that region. Another failure of George Bush is his inability to explain to the American people why we are there, and why we MUST win. By the way, it is not a war. The war was won four years ago. It is martial law that is under attack by Iranian and Syrian outside influences, and there is a difference.

So, what do I believe? What is the bottom line? I will simply say that the Democratic Party has fielded the foulest, power hungry, anti-country, self absorbed group of individuals that I have observed in my lifetime. Our educational system is partially to blame for allowing the mass of America to be taken in by this group. George Bush has done the best he can with the disabilities that he possesses. A President must communicate with the people. And, I would tell you that Desert Storm spoiled the people. Bush Senior's 100-hour war convinced the people that technology has progressed to the point that wars could be fought with no casualties and won in very short periods of time. I remember feeling at the time, that this was a tragedy for the US military. To win wars, you must put boots on the ground. When you put boots on the ground, soldiers are going to die.

A President must make the war decision wisely, and insure that the cause is right before using his last political option. HOWEVER, CONTROLLING IRAN AND DEMOCRATIZING THE MIDDLE EAST IS THE ONLY CHOICE IF WE ARE HELL-BENT ON DEPENDING ON THEM FOR OUR FUTURE ENERGY NEEDS.

Jimmy L. Cash, Brig. Gen., USAF, Ret. Lakeside, Montana 59922

"I'll tell you what war is all about; you've got to kill people, and when you've killed enough they stop fighting." Gen. Curtis LeMay

Thumbs up, Brit!

I found this on You Tube:

How long do ya think this positive, sober act will last? I'm guessing until her Dad's conservatorship expires!!

Spring Break 2008!

We decided to do something a little different this year for Spring Break. Normally, we're beach people. I thought about a cruise, possibly heading south to Galveston and staying in a condo on the beach, but my son had his first camping trip several weeks ago with friends and was so excited about it that my daughter and I thought it would be fun to spend time out in the wilderness enjoying some serious camp time. She is a devoted Girl Scout, by the way and is pretty good at the whole camping thing, which if you knew my girly-girl daughter would surprise you.

We decided to venture to Possum Kingdom Lake about 90 miles west of our home and rented a cabin for 5 days in the State Park (I wasn't about to spend 5 days in a tent with my kids. I love them, but I have my limits)!

We arrived on Sunday afternoon, unloaded our stuff and ventured outside to explore, meet some new folks, play some games, climb trees and have some fun!

Day two began with a hike through the Palo Pinto Mountains. GORGEOUS! We hiked for TWO HOURS and neither of my kids complained once (miracle)!! They had a ball collecting rocks, searching for arrowheads and dinosaur footprints and hoping we didn't run in to any bobcats.

Once we got back to the cabin after our long hike, Mommy was a little tired and took a nap, but my kids kept on going....they played soccer, basketball, climbed more trees, ran around and collected more rocks (we had quite a collection by the time we left), skateboarded, played on the playground with other kids....on and on and on they went until we made a campfire after grilling out some dinner and enjoyed some delicious s'mores! About 20 minutes after dark, this is how I found them:

Look how peaceful they are. I love them the most when they're sleeping! :)

Day three pretty much sucked! What I haven't mentioned yet is that we were so far out in the boonies that I had no cell service. I went 5 day without talking on my cell phone or texting anyone. 5 days! It was quite traumatic! Couple that with the massive rainstorm we had on Day Three and I was pretty much ready to climb the walls by 10am. We decided to "drive to town" which was 40 minutes away and get some pizza for lunch instead of staying in the cabin all day. That ate up a few hours at least. My poor little girl was so bored that she spent 2.5 hours working on a jigsaw puzzle. She has ADHD, so this is no easy task for her, but in a cabin with no phone and no cable that was about all we had to keep us going!

Thankfully, Day Four brought some better weather and the activity the kids had most been looking forward to: BOATING! We took a boat out for the afternoon and the kids LOVED it! They each got to drive (which was quite exciting for my thrill seeking son and very scary for my daughter). We stopped after an hour or so because it was cold out there on the lake and ventured up to The Cliffs Resort for a fantastic lunch (with wine...yeah)! Back to the boat after lunch and more cruising around the lake! Possum Kingdom is a small lake, but it is absolutely beautiful. The homes are magnificient and the landscape is breathtaking. I'm seriously considering looking at some property there!

We woke up on Day Five and it was time to pack up and go home. I had a blast and I know the kids did, too but I was certainly ready to sleep in my bed again. Camping is awesome, but my back is too old to do it for too long (and if you know me at all, I don't take that statement lightly). I missed my tempurpedic!
Maybe we'll do a cruise next year, but I really enjoyed my spending time outdoors with my babies for 4 days. They're amazing kids and it's easy to forget that when you get stuck in a daily routine. I've done a pretty good job with those two and they make me so proud!

My first Mavs game (and an explanation of why I hate their owner)!

Amy was kind enough to invite me to the Dallas Maverick's game last night, and even though I hate Mark Cuban and everything he stands for, I agreed because a night out with Amy is always a fun time (plus I do love basketball)! It was my first NBA game.

Click here to see why Mark Cuban is on my shit list! It starts at 2:34.

The arena was sooooo freakin' far away, so having gone 45 minutes in the car without a cocktail, we decided to go to the W hotel for a pre-game "warm up." I've been to a lot of hotels in my day, but this is truely one of the most gorgeous I have ever laid eyes on!

After downing a couple of vodka tonics at the lobby bar, we walked across the street to the arena.

I've lived in Texas for almost 3 years and this was my first night out in Dallas (I usually head to Fort Worth to get my downtown groove on) and I was really impressed with Victory Park where the arena is located. Very cool shops, condos, eateries, bars, etc.

We had great seats, but my camera doesn't zoom so well!

The game was great and seeing Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd play was an amazing sight. I could not get over how HUGE these players are. I mean they are seriously ENORMOUS!! We cheered, we laughed, we cheered some more, but decided to leave a bit early to beat the crowd over to Ghost Bar located on the top of the W hotel (plus we were kicking Indiana's ass and was obvious the Mavs would win). This is suppossed to be THE place to see and be seen in Dallas.

The outdoor terrace at Ghost Bar! What an amazing view of the city!

Cheers on the terrace!

So many people I know have totally overhyped the Ghost Bar. Yes, it was beautiful; an architectural masterpiece. Yes, there were lots of pretty people there, but the biggest thing I noticed about them is they were always looking out of the corner of their eye to see if someone was watching them. Can't you just sit and enjoy, people? Anyway, I put my time in at the she-she-poo-poo bar of all bars (whatever), but we quickly decided that perhaps we should move on and go somewhere that was more our speed.

Here's me rolling my eyes at the "I have no self-esteem so buy me a drink and validate me" crowd!

So, Amy re-applied her lip gloss and we said, "Adios" to the Ghost Bar!

After a quick stop for a gourmet meal at What-a-Burger (it's the buttered buns), we headed for a good, old fashioned, down and dirty tavern: The Tapp Inn in Grapevine! Good beer, great service, always good live music (no DJ here) and there never fails to be at least one table left when we walk in....it's as if the walls know we're coming!

Amy and I with our server-extraordinaire!

So, I learned a couple of things last night:

1. NBA games are the shiz-ney (even if Mark Cuban is an ass)

2. The best place to hang with friends is the place you can be your silly, loud, obnoxious self and not care what the guy next to you thinks!

3. Amy is super-fun and likes buttered buns as much as I do!

Sidebar: Have a great spring break, everyone! I'm taking the kids camping for 5 days at Possum Kingdom Lake. I'll have a new post about our trip late next week!

7 months to go!!

Quick.....! What's one of the best things about an annual Girls Getaway Weekend? The 12 months of anticipation leading up to it! The silly emails reliving last year's fun and predictions of what's to come on our next trip, the excitement of booking our same condo 8 months in advance, and the promise of new friends joining us for what promises to be 5 days of fun, sun and too many margaritas!

Irish Peter....swoon!

7 months, girls....then look out Key West 'cause the bitches will be back!

Desperate times call for Desperate Measures!

I've never understood Amy Winehouse's appeal. Yes, she makes good music, but her train wreck-of-a-life has taken over any kind of affect her tunes may have on me. The hair and make up alone are enough to make me question her loyalty to her craft. I mean, does anybody that looks like that really want us to believe that the music is more important than the image?

Beyond the beehive and horrible take on Sophia Loren's cat-eyes, she married a drug addict/wife beater who looks like he should be named Skippy, not Blake.

After publicly declaring, "No, No, No" to rehab, she finally decides to quit smoking crack a few months ago after being publicly humiliated (?) by photos of her smoking a crack pipe in a London tabloid.

This is the newest Amy Winehouse headline: Winehouse shocks friends! Apparently, coke and meth are out and snorting vodka is the new thing! Can somebody please stop listening to her "No, No, No" pleas to stay out of rehab and lock this one up (maybe she and Brit Brit can share a cell)???

What's the point of watching now?

I found out that Ms. Madonna, a 2008 inductee into the Hall of Fame and my 1980's idol is not going to perform at the Induction Ceremony this weekend. What? Every inductee performs....what the hell makes her so special?

Well, let me just share a little of what I consider to be some of her bests looks...the things that make her special:

The Like a Virgin days.....it was the 80's and the word "virgin" in a song seemed so dirty and shocking!

The "Dress you Up" days. I thought she was so fashion forward.....thank God the 8o's are over! Notice how she's slyly flipping us off! She's such a rebel!

My all time favorite Bad Ass Madonna photo! I still try to replicate that "Don't F**k with me look when discipling my kids, cigarette and all (just kidding)!

In the early 90's she went classy on us and taught us all to "Vogue."

Then, of course came the SEX era when her song, "Justify my Love" became a perennial Bang CD favorite around the world!

Now, Madonna is all grown up, and so are we, but she still manages to keep us guessing and wondering what her next incarnation will be. She's still a bad ass.....but I sure would have liked to see her perform at the induction ceremony! I guess I'll have to hold out for her next tour!

The blizzard of 2008, part 2

Yesterday was a beautiful day. 60 degrees and sunny. Today? We're expecting up to 5 inches of snow!

The kids love it, though! My daughter's friend, B came over to play with my kids in the snow! We hadn't had too much when I took this picture!

About 2 hours later, there was a good 3 inches on the ground!

Even Jax, the love dog, got in on the fun!

Ahhh, winter in Texas!

Jules & Spammon, this is for you!!

Spammon, refer to the comments from the "it's not you, it's me" segment of today's posts so you'll understand why I dedicated this to you!

For all my single, lady friends...

Finally! An explanation for all those queer male break-up lines. My favorite is:

"Can I call you sometime?"
Translation: "If you're ever lonely at 3 a.m. on a Saturday night...."

Of course, it was usually me saying, "Can I call you sometime," but that's irrelevant (or is it)?

Before and after

I was at the gym this morning and saw the WORST mug shot EVER (and yes, I am including Nick Nolte's).
First, let's look at the Before photo of this beauty queen:

Not bad, huh?

Check out the After:

Doesn't it just make you feel a little better? ICK!....Click here for more details.

This seriously S-U-X!!

This must be some kind of freak record: My little one is sick a-friggin'-gain. This time he's got a tummy virus. We were up all night with his head in the trash can. Poor little guy....nothing is worse than to see your baby throwing up.

UPDATE: It's dinner time and he seems to be feeling better. Let's hope this is over!!

This pretty much sums up my feelings, too!

Doesn't happen often.....

I've been married for 10 years. In that time, my husband and I have made many friends. Some are still in our lives and other have moved on (or we have). It's a very rare thing, as any married person will tell you, to find friendships with couples that you BOTH like. Normally, I'll invite some new folks to the house because I've hit it off with the wife, but Eric won't be thrilled with them for whatever reason. He's a little harder to please than I am sometimes!

About a year ago, we met a great couple (A and B) with similar life circumstances. We've been hanging out a lot recently and have so much in common and we genuinely enjoy spending time with them. It's the first time in a very long time that's happened!

Thanks A and B for being the great people you are! We look forward to many more fireside chats in the future!
